We’re All Punished Now

I have to wonder why whenever the left pulls out the crying towel, it’s about issues from the past. Racism, abortion, contraception – we seem to be moving backwards on a social issue timeline and hitting benchmarks on social issues that have been settled by legislation for everyone and in the hearts of  most people. What’s next on the backwards timeline – demonization of the interstate highway system?

[ I can see why this president thinks that unwanted babies should be front and center. I wonder if his mother ever told him that he was unwanted, that his presence was holding her back. She certainly delivered that message when she sent him away from his core family to live with his grandparents thousands of miles away. In his own words "punished with a baby." And that absent father, of course. Unwanted from the start.]

It’s all about emotion instead of rational thought. The decades old social injustice rallying cries are meant to stir up emotions, create division and distraction. I can’t believe how many of my colleagues fall for it. Such a big fuss over this week’s poster girl for standing up for unfettered access to contraception. Except that’s not the issue. Everyone has access to contraception. Everyone has access to abortion. Remember Planned Parenthood, that bastion of good deeds that everyone was so happy to say during the SGK dust-up offered more than just abortions?

And Rush – how smart is he? Andrew Breitbart not cold in his grave and Rush makes a bold move to take over the position of #1 media conservative whose plain speaking brings out the worst in the Left. That’s brilliant. It’s been the top story for four days. Of course, as NewtieG pointed out on Meet The Press this week:

“I am astonished at the desperation of the elite media to avoid rising gas prices, to avoid the President’s apology to religious fanatics in Afghanistan, to avoid a trillion dollar deficit, to avoid the longest period of unemployment since the Great Depression, and to suddenly decide that Rush Limbaugh is the great national crisis of this week.”

A little media-complicit distraction, anyone?

[post script: I would definitely deny Carbonite the pleasure of doing business with me if I had ever even heard of them before this week.]

    You got that right, girl.

  2. It’s re-education time! Time for the 2 minute hate. All enemies of the state must be punished. When I read about this kind of thing in high school I really thought it could never happen in America.

  3. To be fair (which I occasionally indulge in) the Republican candidates have been complicit in pushing the discussion of the substantive issues to the sidelines. There would be NO viable Santorum candidacy if it weren’t for the kind of behavior you describe. He is as guilty as Obama in that regard.

The other point is: there are no easy fixes for the economic situation we are in, and certainly no soundbites. You fix the economy with a thousand regulatory changes and details, details, details every day of your term. You can’t describe that to a 30-second attention span media. You can, however, describe an imaginary threat or make a false accusation.

“I have in my hand a list of names of 137 Communists in the State Department…” It’s an old song with a familiar tune.
